Open 'File Explorer' by hovering over 'Windows' and right-clicking on the icon on the task bar, and then selecting 'Open file explorer' [1]. (Most modern machines should have a File Explorer on the desktop, and the icon is shown here.) The File Explorer will open with an empty pane at the top. Click on the 'Folder' icon on the top left of the pane (shown below) [2].
2.1 'Local Disk (C:)'
This is where your storage drive (the C: drive) is located, and it contains all the files that you access from any Windows application. Every file on your machine is stored here. It is important that you remember where you store your important files on your C: drive.
2.2 'Program Files (x86)'
This is where all your programs are stored. If you ever think you're doing something wrong, make sure you look in here.
2.3 'Programs'
This folder is where all your programs are stored. Look through the sub-folders to find what you need.
2.4 'Windows'
This is your Windows folder. It contains everything you need to work in Windows, including the operating system itself, your personal settings and information, and any important files you keep on your computer.
2.5 'Documents and Settings'
This is where all your files are stored when you use your PC under Windows XP. It contains any documents you create and any files that you save. (This folder doesn't exist in Windows 7 and later.)
2.6 'Users'
This is where any of your personal files are stored. If you have multiple accounts on your computer, each of them will have a folder of their own in here.
2.7 'Shared Folders'
This is where any folders that are shared with other computers are stored. If you're using a computer with multiple users, each of them will have a shared folder here.
2.8 'Temporary Internet Files'
This is where temporary files for Internet Explorer are stored. If you're using Internet Explorer, you can delete or move these files if you want.
2.9 'Temporary Internet Files (delete)'
This is where all your temporary Internet files are stored. If you ever save a file to the web, you will see it here.
